Apprentice at JRC
Our accounting department has grown temporarily, as we are helping with a local apprenticeship scheme with a student from Accrington & Rossendale College – Lewis Fisk.
Lewis has been with us for some weeks now, helping our accounting department whilst gaining valuable insights, skills and experience into the workings of our business. The scheme is part of the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) apprenticeships, with the aim of helping students gain work experience to help them later in life.
We are pleased to be helping local students gain such experience, particularly with recent stories highlighting the increase in youth unemployment and lack of opportunities.
Director Rosie Connor “It is great to put something back into our local community. Lewis has gained an insight into the working world and this will no doubt benefit him in the future.”
Our New Biomass Boiler
Dealing with quality, natural material of slates every day, we are very conscious about the natural environment here at JRC. As well as environmental concerns, we also ensure that we look to the future and implement energy saving initiatives – such as our newly installed bio-mass boiler.
Due to increasing energy bills and increased environmental awareness everywhere, we wanted to source a heating system which would help us and the environment. Our new bio-mass boiler and new radiators have been installed in our offices to help lessen the impact on the environment, whilst giving additional income for the company.
This boiler is the first of its kind in the UK and was one of only a few which have been funded by Yorkshire Bank. This scheme is designed to help small and medium businesses improve their green credentials and help cut running costs, which have both been achieved with the new installation at JRC.
The new bio-mass boiler replaced our traditional water heater, burning wood rather than the more widely used (and more polluting) gas or oil. This is burned in a controlled manner, with the right mixture of fuel and air to provide highly efficient heating with lower emissions.
